The Knight Show in the Morning: Job Descriptions
The following jobs require students to either arrive to school by 7:30 AM or as soon as their busses arrive to prepare for the morning show. Training will be provided for all positions.
The following positions require students to meet during the school day, not before school:
- On-air Talent/Anchor - Reads with enthusiasm and enunciates clearly. Arrive by 7:30 to review and practice reading the script. If applying for this job, please indicate if you have a preference regarding anchor type (General, News, Weather, Sports, Entertainment, etc.)
- Computer Tech - Uses the computer to create visually engaging slides that support the daily broadcast. This person must have an “eye” for graphics, backgrounds, and text that are both appealing and easy to read on screen. PowerPoint training is provided.
- Mixer Tech –operates the monitors and telecaster to broadcast what the school sees. This person is attentive to the ordering of announcements for each show and switches from cameras to video to computer as needed.
- Sound Tech –Monitors and adjusts volume from various sources in the TV production room, including microphones and computer audio. This job also includes conducting sound checks and selecting appropriate music and sound effects for the show.
- Camera Operator –Operates of the camera during the live taping of the show. This job may expand to include supervision of teleprompter and green screen use.
- Producer – Open only to those with prior TV production experience, this job involves managing and training on-air talent and script and feature writers.
- Director – Open only to those with prior TV production experience, this job involves managing the various technicians and “behind-the-scenes” operations.
The following positions require students to meet during the school day, not before school:
- Script Writer - You should have good writing skills, an interest in local, national and international news and an awareness of what’s important to students. Scripts must be prepared and submitted to Mrs. Warthen 1-2 days before the show to coordinate with Computer Tech and show slides.
- Feature Writer - This position requires excellent research, writing and computer skills for creating special features on topics of interest and importance to the school community. These reports can be prepared in advance.
- Quality Control Monitors - A crew member is assigned daily to watch the show and note strengths and weaknesses of each day’s production. Reviewing these entries help the crew to keep getting better.
